Homelessness is a complex issue. Two charities in Chorlton „Cracking Good Food“ and „Reach Out To The Community“ wanted to highlight facts and misconceptions about homelessness. A Lottery funded community project materialized.
Reach Out To The Community, who support homeless based in Chorlton, recruited people to be trained as Community Reporters. The volunteers generally worked with organisations in Manchester or had first hand experience with homelessness themselves.
The volunteers took part in a two day training session learning how to film sensitively.
They made short and very varied interviews, which were then given to artist filmmaker Clara Casian who edited them with footage shot in Chorlton before Christmas 2017.
The 20 minute film is a compelling portrait of homelessness in Manchester.
The German Church has invited Reach Out To The Community to present the film to German Church members and Churches Together in Stretford. There will be an opportunity to ask questions.
