Culture Sunday: William Tyndale, „Fighter for the Bible“

500 years ago, William Tyndale produced the first English translation of the entire New Testament. To realise his life’s ambition, he accepted a life as a penniless exile, was condemned as a heretic and burnt at the stake in 1536. Just a few months later, a complete English Bible – two-thirds of which was his work – was printed in Antwerp and sold in Britain with the permission of Henry VIII. Yet Tyndale’s name was not mentioned in this translation, nor in the King James Bible of 1611, which was based on his work and remained the Bible of the English-speaking world for over 350 years.
In his lecture, delivered in English and accompanied by extensive visual material, Philip Morey will introduce us to the fascinating life story of this ‘champion of an English-language Bible’.

Overview
The German Church in Liverpool has a long tradition that goes back to the 19th century. Today’s church building is located close to the city centre in the Georgian Quarter on Bedford Street South and the corner of Canning Street on a large garden plot. Our door is open to all!
The German Church of Liverpool comprises of Merseyside, the Wirral and adjacent parts of North Wales and Cheshire. We belong to the Pastoral Region (PAB) North England & East Midlands and are looked after by the pastor Christa Hunzinger.
We are a thriving community and we are in the fortunate position to offer many events outside of our services celebrating our German cultural heritage (also within the framework of the PAB): e.g. excursions, concerts, talks, family retreats, singing retreats, film meeting, summer fete, lantern parade or Christmas bazaar.
We warmly recommend a German-speaking non-church play group who meet in our community hall on the last Saturday of each month, from 10-12. Get in touch with:
