Roman Ehrlich DAAD Writer-in-Residence in Liverpool 7./8. Februar

The critically acclaimed writer Roman Ehrlich is certainly one of the most unconventional and interesting voices among young contemporary writers in Germany…

Ehrlich started out as a radio- and TV engineer but then joined the renowned German Institute for Literature in Leipzig from which he graduated. His publications include “Das kalte Jahr” (2013), “Urwaldgäste” (2014), „Das Theater des Krieges“ (2017 with Michael Disqué) and “Die fürchterlichen Tage des schrecklichen Grauens” (2017). He has received numerous awards for his work.

His writing deals with the absurdities of everyday life in which his protagonists try to make sense of their surroundings while often experiencing a profound sadness and vague sense of longing. The stories often play on the boundaries of the logical and the odd, fiction and non-fiction, where quaint events and individual biographies are intricately weaved into the narrative. His latest novel is a zeitgeisty take on horror movies and our fears, hopes and true horrors
